About this Event
1200 West Algonquin Road, Palatine, IL 60067
January 22nd marks the return of the Department of Music's Jazz Invitational. The event is a non-competitive jazz festival, inviting high school jazz ensembles and jazz combos, from across the greater Chicago area, to be adjudicated by a panel jazz artist-educators that includes Harper College faculty and other area artists. The festival now bears the name of the beloved, late Chicago area saxophonist and educator, Mark Colby, who passed away Sept 2020.
Beginning at 4PM the festival will conclude with an award ceremony and two featured performances. Harper's Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jeff Hedberg, will perform a short set, featuring the Ian McGarrie (saxophone), Kirk Garrison (trumpet), Peter Aglinskas (guitar), Kevin Fort (piano), Cory Biggerstaff (bass) and Darren Scorza (drums).
Immediately following Harper's set will be the finale performance, featuring the Mulligan Mosaics Big Band, directed by Ted Hogarth.
The 2022 Mark Colby Jazz Invitational @ Harper College is sponsored by Quinlan & Fabish Music Co. and Conn-Selmer, Inc.
*Morning and afternoon performances and clinics of participating high school bands are not open to the public.
