The Center of Concern is offering free income tax preparation assistance to help local residents file their taxes as a part of the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs. This service is available at the Center of Concern office or at other locations in the community.
Drop-in tax assistance events will be held at Harper College on Wednesday, March 5 and Tuesday, March 11 from 11:00am - 1:00pm in Building Z, Avante Concourse.

Income tax preparation assistance is provided without the need to sit in a physical office. During the intake and consultation process, the client will provide the required documents to prepare their taxes. Trained and certified volunteer tax preparers review the documents and communicate with clients to clarify details. Once the tax return is prepared, it undergoes a thorough review to ensure accuracy and tax law compliance. Clients then can review and approve the final return before it is electronically filed.
This service is available at no cost, though donations to the Center of Concern are welcome. Consultations will operate on a first come, first serve basis.
