Please join us to celebrate Bernie Bluestein’s extraordinary life. Bernie is a WWII veteran, retired product designer and long-time Harper art student.

Bernie served in a unit which has come to be known as the Ghost Army. In February, President Biden signed into law the Ghost Army Congressional Gold Medal Act, honoring the WWII deception unit. The medal won't be designed and minted for at least another year. Rather than waiting, the Ghost Army Legacy Project is holding celebrations now while these WWII heroes are still alive. Bernie is one of only nine surviving members of the Ghost Army. (For more on the amazing story of the WWII Ghost Army, check out ghostarmy.org.)

After retiring from a long successful career in design, Bernie began taking art classes at Harper in 1989. He has been a beloved fixture in the Art Department ever since.

During this event, Bernie will be presented with a copy of the signed law, a letter from President Biden, letters from the House and Senate sponsors, and honors from the Harper Board of Trustees and Educational Foundation. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
