Will Eisner (1917–2005) is one of the most significant artists in the history of comic books and comics studies in the U.S. In addition to his atmospheric work on The Spirit in the 1940s, Eisner was also a pioneer of the graphic novel in autobiographical books including A Contract with God and Other Tenement Stories (1978), The Dreamer (1986), and Last Day in Vietnam (2000). This exhibition will include drawings from Eisner’s earliest comics to the innovative storytelling experiments he produced in the final decades of his long and varied career. Join us for this fascinating look at one of the 20th century’s most intriguing and groundbreaking artists. Guest curated by Brian Cremins, Harper Associate Professor of English.
